
There are a number of in-person and online meetings provided by SMART Recovery and Alcoholics Anonymous. Both organizations are offering mutual support meetings that are free and open to anyone wanting to abstain from addictive behavior.
In addition, individuals charged with misdemeanor crimes in Brooklyn or Manhattan are eligible for Liberty Fund’s services, which includes support for substance users. If you have a caller who is interested, take down their information (name, phone number, age, docket, and preferred language), get consent and email outreachsup@nycja.org their information at the end of the business day.
You can call the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA’s) Disaster Distress Helpline at 1-800-985-5990 or Text “TalkWithUs” to 66746 to speak to a trained counselor.
In addition, you can call the NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports’ (OASAS) HOPEline at 1-877-846-7369 or text HOPENY to 467369. The NYS HOPEline offers 24/7 support with addiction, substance use and gambling, and also offers counseling, family services, peer and recovery support services, and connections to treatment providers.
