We are models of change. We are literally pillars in the recovery community. We’re just standing tall. Participants have to get onto their own paths, and that’s what we’re there for. We’re there to be that added layer of support for whatever choices they make, because they’re the driver and I’m a passenger. I’m just there like, ‘You know, hey, listen: let’s do this! How can I make this transition a little smoother for you?’

Peers in their own words

It’s all about finding the interest or that spark for somebody and just like putting kindling to it. And just blowing on it a little bit. Then throwing some logs on it. And then you can just walk away because the fire's already burning. That’s the whole beautiful thing of peer support it's like, you just help somebody start that fire. And once the fire is burning, fire is hard to put out. It’s hard to kill that inspiration in someone when they genuinely feel it. The world can kick us down, but when you really feel inspiration in your heart, you know where you want to go. That’s been my experience.
