QUICKVIEWS No. 6: Bail Amounts at Arraignment

NOTES:
THE NOVEMBER 2003-JANUARY 2004 DATASET
The dataset includes information about arrests in New York City from November 1, 2003 through January 31, 2004.

BAIL
Bail is the lower of the bond or cash alternative, if any, set at Criminal Court arraignment, for defendants for whom bail was set, summed across dockets. The bail distributions presented here exclude defendants for whom bail was set at $1, because $1 indicates that bail has been set (or the defendant was remanded) on another case.

RELEASE STATUS
Release status is the most severe release status across dockets leaving arraignment in Criminal Court. Defendants who are held on bail at arraignment may secure release on bail within several days of their arraignment.
